A descriptive study to assess the level of knowledge and attitude towards higher studies among GNM students at selected nursing colleges of District Mohali, Punjab

Introduction: Nursing is a vital component of the health care system and the demand for well-qualified, professionally trained nurses continues to grow globally. In India, nursing education is offered thorough various programs, including the General Nursing and Midwifery course, which serves as a foundation for aspiring nurses. With the increasing complexities in health care delivery and patient care, the need for advanced education and specialized training for nurses has become more critical than ever.
Aims: Aims of the study is to assess the level of knowledge and attitude towards higher studies among GNM students at selected Nursing Colleges of Districts Mohali, Punjab. 
Methods: A quantitative research approach, descriptive research design was adopted to conduct the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 200 samples to assess the knowledge and attitude toward higher studies among GNM students. In this study the population consists of GNM students. Data was collected by questionnaire. Data analysis was done by using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: Based on the study, it was found that the level of knowledge regarding higher studies among GNM students of selected colleges of nursing Mohali, Punjab. Out of 200 students majority of 56.5% had good knowledge and only 37% had average knowledge. The mean score of knowledge was 66.8%.
Conclusions: On the basis of present study researcher found that the 56.5% of the students were having good knowledge and 6.5% having poor knowledge, hence assumption one is accepted i.e. maximum of the students were having good knowledge regarding higher studies. 51.5% of the students were having positive attitude and 2.5% of the students were having negative attitude regarding higher studies, therefore assumption two is accepted i.e. maximum of the students were having positive attitude regarding higher studies, association of knowledge with sociodemographic variables i.e family monthly income, source of information regarding higher studies and the first person in your family to attend college or university shows significant association and the data shows no significant association with attitude and any socio-demographic variables.
