Objectives: The study aimed to assess the depression and its contributing factors among the employed and unemployed women.
Materials and Methods: A quantitative survey approach was adopted for this study and the design was descriptive survey study design. There 230 numbers of employed and unemployed women were selected by non- probability convenient sampling technique. The level of depression was assessed by Beck depression inventory scale, contributing factors of depression was assessed by self- structured questionnaire.
Results: Findings revealed that, 46.0% of employed women were within 30 years of age and 45.2% of unemployed women were between 41-50 years of age. There are some contributing factors that affect the depression among employed and unemployed women i.e personal, psychosocial/family, financial, physical, and workplace factors. The level of depression was higher among employed women as compared to unemployed women (Mean rank 142.73, and 88.27 respectively). Socio demographic variable like age has association with depression (p=0.003*). The study concluded that.
Conclusion: Thus, there is a higher depression found in employed women than the unemployed women. Nurses must involve in teaching the women and their family members about depression that affect the mental health.
